Bilateral relations

The UK and Canada work together on many bilateral and international initiatives.

Prime Minister David Cameron and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper have met on a number of occasions. Most recently, Prime Minister Cameron visited Ottawa on 22 September 2011 to address a joint-session of the Parliament of Canada. During his address the Prime Minister said, "The relationship between Britain and Canada is deep and strong."

The Prime Ministers also used this occasion to endorse a Canada-UK Joint Declaration entitled “A Stronger Partnership for the 21st Century”.

The Prime Minister also announced the UK's Trade Office in Calgary will be upgraded to a Consulate-General in 2012.

In June 2010 Prime Minister David Cameron welcomed Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper to 10 Downing Street. Weeks later PM Cameron visited Canada to attend the G8 Summit in Muskoka and G20 Summit in Toronto. He also visited the HMS Ark Royal in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
