Passports

As part of a global rationalisation of our overseas passport production, from November 2008 all British passports in North America will be issued at the UK's Passport Office in Washington DC. Similar changes are being made in Europe and Australasia.

This rationalisation will help us to keep down the cost of a British passport issued overseas by operating in fewer locations rather than running multiple passport offices close together.  British citizens in Canada will continue to receive high standards of efficient service, including the government's commitment to process at least 90% of passport applications within 10 working days.

All applications for full validity British passports from residents of Canada and the USA should be sent to:

North America Passport Production Centre
British Embassy
19 Observatory Circle, NW
Washington, DC 20008
