Bilateral relations

Canadian PM Stephen Harper meets with UK PM Gordon Brown

Prime Minister Stephen Harper (left) bids farewell to Britain's Prime Minister Gordon Brown after a meeting in London

The UK/Canada bilateral relationship is strong. Both countries work together on many bilateral and international initiatives. A new stage in UK/Canadian relations was launched in June 1997 when the two Prime Ministers issued a Joint Declaration at the G8 Summit in Denver aimed at modernising our relationship and broadening the range and depth of bilateral ties. The Joint Declaration has spawned a number of successful initiatives, agreements and visit exchanges.

The range of the issues in the bilateral relationship cover every aspect of the socio-economicĀ and foreign policy.
