UK Science and Innovation Network in Canada

The UK undertakes world-class science. With just 1% of the world's population the UK receives over 12% of all citations to published papers, has almost 13% of papers with the highest impact and receives 10% of internationally recognised prizes each year. But the UK realises that science is an international endeavour and to be successful it needs to work with the best scientists in the world. The UK has therefore created the UK Science and Innovation Network in Canada, aimed at building strong links between UK and Canadian science.

What do we do?

Working closely with our colleagues in UK Trade and Investment and the British Council our main aims are

Scientific Collaboration - facilitating scientific collaboration between UK universities and research laboratories and the best public and private-sector counterparts in Canada.

Innovation - facilitating R&D partnerships and technology transfer, attracting R&D intensive international investment, and helping to access and benchmark against Canadian technologies.

Influence - using science and innovation as a means of influence across the range of the UK's international strategic priorities (e.g. climate change, energy security, poverty, infectious diseases, counter-terrorism).

Policy-making - helping policy-makers develop best practice in science and innovation policy, and developing international frameworks in breakthrough technologies such as stem cell research.

Where are we?

We are based at the British High Commission in Ottawa and at the British Consulate-General in Toronto.
